加里·格兰特生长于英国貧家，14歲失學加入馬戲團巡迴演出，16歲在美國紐約演舞台劇5年，成名于西岸好莱坞，擔綱演出數部「緊張大師」希區考克執導影片；
1981年他与考特·贝茜、海伦·海斯、杰洛姆·罗宾斯、鲁道夫·塞尔金一同获得肯尼迪中心荣誉奖。
