Post-Britpop（後英式搖滾），為英式搖滾風潮沒落之後，衍生而來的英國另類搖滾類型之一，發展於1990年代晚期至2000年初。雖然受到Oasis和Blur等英式搖滾樂團的影響，但相較之下，後英式搖滾在詞曲中，不再刻意強調以英國為主的觀點，進而融入美式搖滾的元素，包括Post-Grunge樂風以及實驗音樂。後英式搖滾樂團包括The Verve 、Radiohead 、Travis 、Stereophonics 、Feeder以及Coldplay，他們在世界各地創下佳績，超越之前大多數英式搖滾時期的團體。[1][2][3][4][5]

大約在1997年，音樂圈對「Cool Britannia」（酷英國，英國工黨的文化政治活動）的不滿日益增加，此時英式搖滾的浪潮正在瓦解，一些新興的樂團在創作上，即使曲風仍然衍生自英式搖滾，卻開始避免被貼上英式搖滾的標籤。[1][6] 許多樂團傾向結合英國傳統搖滾（British trad rock）的元素與美式搖滾樂曲風 [7]，涵蓋The Beatles、Rolling Stones和Small Faces [5] ，與美式的Post-Grunge。[8][9] 音樂主題不再只以英國、英格蘭、倫敦生活等地方觀點為中心，歌詞內涵比英式搖滾時期更為內斂自省。[10][11][12] 音樂主題的改變，或許能夠說是造就某些樂團在海外成功的原因。[2]

The Verve及Radiohead等樂團，在1990年代中期成功進軍唱片市場，但並不屬於英式搖滾熱潮的音樂圈。當英式搖滾漸趨式微，這些樂團開始受到人們注意。 [1] The Verve的專輯 Urban Hymns (1997) 在全球大賣，達到他們在1999年解散前的全盛時期；而Radiohead的專輯 OK Computer (1997) 以及陸續發行的Kid A (2000) 和 Amnesiac (2001) 皆獲得高度評價。[13]

  •  蘇格蘭「Cool Caledonia」
蘇格蘭的文化圈及音樂圈，媒體稱之為「Cool Caledonia」[15] ，孕育出許多成功的另類搖滾樂手。來自Glasgow的The Supernaturals，專輯 It Doesn't Matter Anymore (1997) 登上英國排行榜前10名，重新發行的單曲 Smile (1997) 也登上排行榜第25名，但他們卻沒有持續這股氣勢，達到各界期待的突破進展。 [16] 同樣來自於Glasgow的Travis是第一個在Post-Britpop時期異軍突起的樂團。[1] 在音樂方面採取Oasis偏好的吉他搖滾，他們的風格從 Good Feeling (1997) 時期的個人特色，到 The Man Who (1999) 時期的大眾化，轉為 12 Memories (2003) 時期充滿社會意識及政治意涵的創作 [14] ，有樂評認為Travis開創了後英式搖滾的衍生類型。[17] 另外來自愛丁堡的樂團Idlewild，受到美國Post-Grunge樂風的影響，雖然他們的第二張專輯 Hope Is Important (1998) 沒有進入英國排行榜前50名，但隨後推出的三張唱片皆進入排行榜前20名，專輯 The Remote Part (2002) 以及單曲 You Held the World in Your Arms 皆為排行榜第9名。雖然在國際上受到一些注目，卻還是無法成功進軍美國。[18]

在名為「Cool Cymru」的威爾斯後英搖音樂圈 [15]，第一個脫穎而出的樂團為Catatonia，擁有英國專輯排行榜前10名的單曲 Mulder and Scully (1998) 以及冠軍專輯 International Velvet (1998) ，卻因為團員之間的爭執，在2001年解散。[19][20] 同樣來自威爾斯的Stereophonics，在1999年的專輯 Performance and Cocktails (1999) 中，結合了Post-Grunge和硬蕊龐克（Hardcore）等元素，但在 Just Enough Education to Perform (2001) 與後來的專輯中，逐漸轉為較抒情的曲風。[21][22]
