大不列颠岛（英语：Great Britain，蘇格蘭蓋爾語：Breatainn Mhòr，威爾斯文：Prydain Fawr，康沃尔语：Breten Veur）是一个位于欧洲西北部的岛屿[1]，是全世界第九大岛屿，也是欧洲最大的岛屿。2008年中统计人口共5960万[2]，在各岛屿中排名第三。大不列颠岛周围环绕着超过1000[3] 座的小岛，爱尔兰岛在它的西面。
整个岛屿都属于大不列颠和北爱尔兰联合王国统治，并且联合王国的大部分领土都在大不列颠岛，所以“大不列颠”有时被用来指代整个联合王国。英格兰，苏格兰和威尔士以及它们的首府伦敦、爱丁堡、加的夫都在岛上。
安妮女王时期的1707年5月1日，英格兰王国和苏格兰王国合并组成了大不列颠王国，直到1801年大不列颠王国又和爱尔兰王国合并为大不列颠和爱尔兰联合王国。1922年爱尔兰自由邦从中独立，王国又变成了大不列颠和北爱尔兰联合王国。

大不列颠岛是联合王国最大的岛屿。从政治角度讲，大不列颠岛包括英格兰、苏格兰和威尔士[4]，还包括其周边的众多岛屿，例如怀特岛、设德兰群岛，但不包括马恩岛和海峡群岛。它们不属于联合王国，并且拥有独立的司法和税务系统[4][5] 。

大不列颠岛位于欧洲大陆西北，爱尔兰岛以东，因北海和英吉利海峡而与大陆分离，与大陆最近距离32公里，位置在多佛尔海峡。全岛面积209,331 km²。

根据考古发现,英国( 大不列顛島) 在旧石器时代, 已有先民居住, 至于他们是否就是现今英国人的祖先, 还没有定论. 新石器时代, 蓋尔特人定居. 虽然, 语言学家把英语和德语歸入到印歐語系日耳曼語族, 可是,自公元1066年, 诺曼底人入侵, 他们带来的法语痕迹, 在今天的英语中随处可见. 粗略估计, 当今英语中还有约一万个法语词汇. 所以, 今天英语和法语相象的地方更多.
