姬蒂·荷姆絲在1978年於美國俄亥俄州托萊多出生[1]。她母親凱瑟琳(Kathleen A.)是家庭主婦和慈善家；父親大馬丁·約瑟夫·荷姆斯(Martin Joseph Holmes, Sr.)在1945年出生，是處理離婚案的律師[2]；她有4個姐姐、1個哥哥，是家中年紀最小的。她現居於俄亥俄州盧卡斯縣西爾韋尼亞鎮(en:Sylvania Township, Lucas County, Ohio)一家意大利式的屋子[3][4]。

姬蒂·荷姆絲在2005年4月開始，她與比他年長16年的電影明星湯·告魯斯公開談戀愛。這使她的知名度急升，惹來很多負面評價，例如被指是宣傳她和湯·告魯斯合作的電影而已[5]。湯·告魯斯信奉山達基教，本身是天主教徒[6] 的她和湯·告魯斯談戀愛後加入了山達基教教會(Church of Scientology)[7]。姬蒂·荷姆絲和湯·告魯斯在2005年10月宣告她已懷孕，在2006年4月18日女兒蘇莉(Suri)出生，其後兩人才在2006年11月18日於意大利結婚。
