穆娜出生于纽约州宾厄姆顿。[2] 她母亲有着爱尔兰血统，名叫“玛丽·布丽姬”。[3] 她父亲名叫“爱德华·布丽姬·穆娜”，是马萨诸塞大学阿默斯特分校的科学家和教授。[2] 她有两个弟弟，名叫“安迪”和“肖恩”。[3] 7岁时，她的父母搬到了东隆美多。[2] 她在东隆美多高级中学读书，她嗜好体育运动，最爱女式足球、篮球和曲棍球。[4] 1989年，她从东隆美多高级中学毕业。[5] 她说，童年时，她就像一个假小子。[2]

穆娜和编剧斯科特·罗森伯格曾有过三年的情侣关系。[3][6] 从2004年到2006年12月14日，穆娜和英格兰球员汤姆·布雷迪在一起，2007年2月18日，穆娜向媒体透露，她已经有三个月的身孕，而布雷迪正是孩子的父亲。[7] 2007年8月，她生了一个男孩，名叫“约翰·爱德华·托马斯·穆娜”，[8] 在圣莫尼卡的圣约翰医疗中心。[9] 2008年7月，穆娜接受《时尚芭莎》访问时表示，作为一个单身母亲，她愿意接受别人抚养她的孩子，孩子昵称叫做“杰克”。[10] 尽管穆娜和布雷迪的关系很坏，但是儿子的出生，使得两人保留着一种“公民义务关系”。[11] 2010年年底开始，穆娜和约瑟夫·麦克金提·尼彻在飞机上见面之后，正式拍拖。[12][13] 穆娜搬迁到了加州洛杉矶。[11]
