布瑞特出生于1984年8月2日。她自3岁起就开始在坎那珀里斯（英语：Kannapolis, North Carolina）的真理寺(Truth Temple)学唱歌。她与几个哥哥后来还一起在Charlotte当地的WAXN（英语：WAXN）电台的每日宗教栏目上表演过。在South Rowan高中就读期间，她加入过校合唱团。

她的父母在她7岁时离异。这件事也曾被写入《Don't Worry Now》和《All This Time》这2首歌中。[1]2012年7月，她嫁给了Joshua Crosby。[2][3]2013年7月24年，她的第一个孩子出生[4]，这个女孩取名为Ella Brave Crosby[5]。2015年2月8日凌晨，她的第二个孩子出生，这个男孩取名为Adin Jerusalem Crosby。[6]
