英国最畅销专辑列表

英国历史上销量最高的专辑是皇后乐队在1981年发行的合辑《Greatest Hits》，截至2014年2月售出逾6百万张，其中约12万张是通过數位音樂下載的形式售出^[1]。皇后乐队的第二张合辑《Greatest Hits II（英语：Greatest Hits II (Queen album)）》自1991年发行起售出约3.89百万张，在英国专辑历史销量榜上排名第十位^[2]。在该榜单排名前40位的专辑中，有半数为英国本土艺人的作品^[3]。9张专辑为美国艺人作品，除英美两国外入榜的还有爱尔兰、加拿大、瑞典和牙买加艺人的专辑^[4]。五位艺人/团体有不止一张专辑入榜，他们是披头士乐队、酷玩乐队、蒂朵、迈克尔·杰克逊和皇后乐队，后两者在前十位里分别占据两席^[2]。出现最多的唱片公司是占有五席的Parlophone公司。出现最多的时代是2000年代，尽管音乐销量在总体上呈现下跌趋势以及网络盗版泛滥，榜单上还是有14张专辑在该年代中发行^[3]^[4]。

根据英国机构官方排行榜公司（OCC）的定义，专辑是指一种包含4首以上歌曲、或时长超过20分钟的音乐出版物（英语：music release）^[5]。音乐杂志《Record Mirror（英语：Record Mirror）》于1956年7月28日编写了一张全国销量前五唱片的周榜，那是英国历史上第一次公开出版专辑的销量^[6]。《Record Mirror》首张榜单的冠军唱片是弗兰克·辛纳屈的《Songs for Swingin' Lovers!（英语：Songs for Swingin' Lovers!）》^[7]。自那以后，有三张专辑的销量超过五百万张，它们分别是皇后乐队的《Greatest Hits》、ABBA的《Gold: Greatest Hits（英语：Gold: Greatest Hits (ABBA album)）》和披头士的《Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band》^[8]。排名前八位的专辑每张的销量都超过了四百万张^[9]。自1994年起，官方排行榜公司负责监控专辑的销量，并编写每周的英國專輯排行榜^[10]。

英国的音乐唱片销售认证由英国唱片业协会授予^[11]。该协会自1973年4月成立后很快开始颁发认证^[12]。起初，认证的依据是专辑制造商获得的收入多少：赚得七万五千英镑可获得银唱片认证，十五万英镑为金唱片而一百万英镑则是白金唱片^[12]。在之后的六年间，银唱片和金唱片的门槛提高了一倍，而白金唱片的标准仍保持一百万英镑不变。1979年1月，该计算方法被废除，认证的依据变为零售商的销售单元：六万张销量为银唱片，十万张为金唱片，三十万张为白金唱片^[12]。多白金认证的概念出现于1987年2月：例如，2×白金认证意为两倍于白金认证的销量，等于六十万张销量^{[注 1]}^[13]。在1973年4月前发行的专辑以1994年后的销量为准，于2013年8月获得了追加认证的颁发，如《Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band》获得了3×白金认证^[14]。获得最高认证的专辑是阿黛尔的《21》，得到了16次白金认证^[15]。
