贵族制指由少数几个贵族集团掌握政权的政府组织形式。

词源

• 英文aristocracy一词来自古希腊文 aristos（最优的）和kratein（统治）两个词根。在亞里斯多德《政治學》中，提出六種政體，貴族制與寡頭制相同，統治權由某個階級中的少數人共有，但是貴族制是以公利為出發點，寡頭制則是以統治階級自身利益為出發。
• Aristocracy也可以用来指代贵族阶层或贵族社会。
