他生于皮奥里亚，母亲Mary A. LaHood (née Vogel)是德裔美国人，父亲Edward M. LaHood是黎巴嫩裔，他经营着一家餐馆[1][2][3]。1971年他获得位于皮奥里亚的 Bradley University 的教育与社会学的理學士[1]。
