.NET Messenger Service

.NET Messenger Service是一个由微软公司开发的即时通讯和出席系统。它与微软的.NET Passport系统一起工作使用户能与其他在线用户收发即时消息。

正式使用.NET Messenger Service的客户端程式，包括Windows Live Messenger、MSN Messenger、Windows Messenger、Microsoft Messenger for Mac以及MSN Web Messenger。第三方協力商客戶端程式，如Gaim、Trillian和Miranda IM也可以連上共享服務。

這個服務也可以整合在微軟Windows XP操作系統裡，可隨著用戶簽入簽出Windows，自動、立即的幫助用戶簽入簽出到.NET網路下。

最后一个版本的MSN Messenger版本是7.5，8.0以后的版本改名为Windows Live Messenger，而Windows Messenger最后一个版本則是5.1。

值得一提的事，早期微軟與3COM開發的LAN Manager以及後來包括在Windows NT裡的系統知會服務“Messenger Service”，有時用來向使用者顯示一些彈出式廣告。雖然這個服務的名稱跟.NET Messenger Service相似，可是他們間一點關係都沒有。
