.edu 是互聯網的通用頂級域之一，主要供教育機構，如大學等院校使用。它原供全世界的教育機構使用，但實際使用的教育機構大部份位於美國。

这个顶级域名成立于1985年。1985年4月24日，columbia.edu, purdue.edu, rice.edu, 和 ucla.edu成为前四个注册的域名。不过，在美国以外的院校一般在.edu后加当地的国家代码（像墨西哥是 .edu.mx， 澳大利亚是.edu.au，英国是ac.uk和sch.uk）；在加拿大，德国和法国这样的国家，只是使用国家代码；在德国，这往往是一种前缀，（比如www.uni - erfurt.de和www.fh - erfurt.de），如果同一机构有着不同的类型，则那些域名均为该该机构的（比如www.fu - berlin.de 、 www.tu - berlin.de和www.hu - berlin.de这三个都是柏林大学的）
