Melbourne Wesley Cummings 和 Lew Addison Cummings 与1942年建立Addison-Wesley，其出版的第一本书是由MIT的教授Francis Weston Sears编写的力学，出版的第一本计算机科学领域的图书是由Wilkes, Wheeler, 和 Gill合作编写的 Programs for an Electronic Digital Computer。
1977年, Addison-Wesley并购了W. A. Benjamin Company, 将其与旗下的Cummings系列合并形成Benjamin Cummings系列。1988年Addison-Wesley被培生集团收购[1]并于1994年成为培生旗下的Addison Wesley Longman的一部分。 1997年，Addison-Wesley的一部分被卖给Perseus Books公司, 同时 Addison-Wesley成为一个教育图书出版商[2] 1998年，培生集团收购了Simon & Schuster旗下的教育图书系列, 并将其并入 Addison Wesley Longman形成了培生教育出版集团。
