薇拉·凯瑟（英语：Willa Cather，1873年12月7日—1947年4月24日[1]），美国作家，以"One of Ours"一书，于1923年得到普利策奖，作品以擅长描写女性及美国早期移民的拓荒开垦生活而闻名（著作如《哦·拓荒者！》及《我的安东妮亚》)，为美国重要的乡土作者之一。她在内布拉斯加州长大，毕业于内布拉斯加大学。在匹兹堡生活和工作了十年，然后在她33岁时搬到了纽约，在那里度过了余生。

薇拉·凯瑟生于弗吉尼亚州温彻斯特，9岁时随家人移居内布拉斯加州，薇拉有六个弟妹：Roscoe，Douglass，Jessica，James，John和Elsie。[2]根据薇拉的传记作者Hermione Lee描述，薇拉与弟弟关系很好，与妹妹关系不十分亲密。[3]在女性长辈的财务支持下，她毕业于内布拉斯加大学，成为当时少数拥有大学学历的女性之一，她热爱写作，学生时期常在Nebraska State Journal发表文章[4]，大学毕业后当过高中教师及 McClure's 杂志社总编辑。
她于1906年由内布拉斯加迁至纽约，任职于 McClure's 杂志社，1908年升为总编辑，于业余写作，并拥有多位文坛上的好友。她的第一本著作为 "Alexander's Bridge" ，文风深受亨利·詹姆斯影响，后认识作家Sarah Orne Jewett，建议她改变写作方向，多描述自己的故乡内布拉斯加，她因而回到故乡寻找写作灵感，而那些著作(My Antonia 及 O! Pioneers!)使她深受文艺评论及读者欢迎。

19世纪90年代初薇拉·凯瑟作为一名学生在内布拉斯加大学时，有着男性化的绰号“威廉”，喜欢穿着男性化的服装。[5]内布拉斯加大学的档案照片中显示凯瑟穿得像一个年轻的男子。[6]
凯瑟终生未婚，因与数位女性过从甚密[7]，且在纽约工作时与女性同事共居一屋[8]，故曾被质疑为女同性恋者，但她否认。由于平日来往的书信已在死前被她焚毁，虽有少数保存在美国大学图书馆的书信留传下来，但她在遗书中言明不许对外公开生平书信内容，因而学界至今迟迟还未能证明她的真实性向。
1947年4月24日凯瑟在纽约由于脑出血而死亡，被埋葬在新罕布什尔州Jaffrey的一处墓地内。[9][10]
