白秃猴学名Cacajao calvus)是一种细小的新世界猴,尾巴非常短,面红秃头,毛皮很长。[3]它们一般重少于9磅[4]及长20-23吋。[5]其下已知有四个已确认的亚种[1],所有都被列为易危

生物及生态[编辑]

白秃猴有很长的毛皮,颜色介乎白色至红色之间。它们是秃头的,故名秃猴。[3]它们的尾巴像的小尾,在新世界猴间算是短小的,只有约5.9吋长,只有体长的一半。[6]由于它们缺乏皮肤色素,面部组织充满微血管,故其面呈鲜红色。[3]鲜红色的面是健康的一种讯号。繁殖期于10月至5月。雌猴会释放香味吸引雄猴交配妊娠期不详。它们的下颚非常强壮,可以用来打开坚硬果实的壳。[3]它们的寿命一般为20岁。

白秃猴是树栖的灵长类,会按季节栖息在巴西秘鲁亚马逊盆地的泛滥森林[3]在干旱的季节,它们会走到地上寻找种子及其他食物材料。[7]它们67%的食物是种子;18%为果实;6%花朵;其他猎物及芽则占5%。[8]它们也会吃昆虫,但却不会主动寻找作为食物。[9]

白秃猴群每天可以移动4.8公里远。[3]群落成员约为5-30只,最多甚至可以多达100只。[9]估计雌性白秃猴是有恋出生地性[10],故是雄猴离开出生群落。它们的地盘约有500-600公顷大。[11]它们会发出独特的叫声、摆动尾巴及竖起毛发来保护地盘。[9]

威胁[编辑]

白秃猴的保育状况于2008年由近危改为易危,它们的数量因猎杀及失去栖息地而在过去30年下降了最少30%。[2]虽然保育工作已经改良,但实际的数量却依旧下跌。[2]由于它们的栖息环境很有限制,故很易受到人类活动的影响。[2]

森林的消失及猎杀都是对于白秃猴来说最重要的威胁。[2]于1980年至1990年间,平均每年就有15.4公顷的热带森林被破坏,而新热带也同样面对失去森林的问题。[12]于1997年,亚马逊盆地就经历了最大的森林破坏。[13]砍伐硬木是整体森林破坏的主因。[14]冠层的破坏及失去森林直接影响这种树栖白秃猴的生态。另外,白秃猴群落位近亚马逊河,很易成为猎人猎杀的对象。[2]

保育[编辑]

1999年,世界银行开展了一个保育巴西雨林的计划,目标是从德国英国及其主要工业国注资达3亿5000万美元保护亚马逊盆地[15]多项保育计划亦正实施保护亚马逊盆地。[13]巴西当局亦会提高监管非法砍伐、采矿及伐林等行为。[16]
