語言類型學（linguistic typology），語言學的分支學科，研究不同語言的特徵並通過這些特徵而對其進行分類的一個科學。其理念是相信只有經過跨語言的比較研究才能了解人類語言的本質，並不相信通過對於單一語言的深入研究能達到這一目的。[1]
還有學者將其看作是語言學的一個學派，或功能語言學的一部分。[1]與歷史比較語言學相比，語言類型學並不關注各種語言的歷史淵源及相互間的親源關係，而只關注於不同語言間的共性特徵。
