月尾刺尾鱼，为辐鳍鱼纲鲈形目刺尾鱼亚目刺尾鱼科的其中一个种，于1855年由法国博物学家 François-Louis Laporte, comte de Castelnau 首次正式描述，其模式产地为巴西的巴伊亚。
分布[编辑]
本鱼分布于大西洋区，包括美国、加勒比海、巴西、哥伦比亚、委内瑞拉、圭亚那、法属圭亚那、苏里南、圣赫勒拿岛、阿森松岛等海域。

水深2至80米。
特征[编辑]
本鱼体呈椭圆形而侧扁[2][3]。口小，端位，上下颌各具一列扁平齿，齿固定不可动，齿缘具缺刻。体为蓝灰色，眼睛周围有浅色到深色的斑纹，大多数的背鳍、臀鳍和尾鳍上有蓝色或白色的斑纹，有时在尾巴的根部可以看到浅色的条纹，尾鳍成半月形，腹鳍与臀鳍基部为白色，尾柄硬棘部黑色。背鳍硬棘9枚；背鳍软条23至26枚；臀鳍硬棘3枚；臀鳍软条21至23枚，体长可达12.8公分。
生态[编辑]
本鱼栖息在浅海礁区，常成小群行动，属草食性，以藻类为食，其尾部硬棘会造成创伤。
经济利用[编辑]
可作为食用鱼及观赏鱼。
