褐林鸮（学名：Strix leptogrammica）是亚洲南部的一种猫头鹰，主要分布于印度、孟加拉、斯里兰卡、台湾、印尼西部及中国南部。
特征[编辑]
褐林鸮属中等身型，长45-57厘米，上身呈深褐色，肩膀上有白色斑点。下身呈淡黄色，有褐色的斑纹。面部呈褐色或赤色，有白边但没有同心的斑纹，眼睛呈深褐色。颈上有白带。雄鸟及雌鸟相似。
褐林鸮中型猛禽，全长约50厘米，上体棕褐色，头顶纯褐色，面盘棕褐色，眼周黑褐色，眉纹近白色，飞羽褐色。 栖息于山地森林中，以鼠类、昆虫为食，筑巢于栎树等天然树洞中。

一些褐林鸮的亚种会发出不同的叫声，在外观及临域性也有不同，甚至可能是不同的物种。栖息在喜玛拉雅山山脚克什米尔东部至台湾的类群（包括喜玛拉雅林鸮、S. l. ticehursti、S. l. laotiana及S. l. caligata）的叫声很柔软及低沉。巴氏林鸮的叫声则很大及强烈。
习性[编辑]
褐林鸮栖息在茂密的森林中，并不常见。它们是夜间活动的，主要吃细小的哺乳动物、鸟类及爬行类。它们会在树穴或树枝间筑巢，每次会生两个蛋。
