^ 5.05.1Otto, Joel D., Alive in Christ互联网档案馆的存檔,存档日期2014-04-29., p9-11, "we see that baptism is not a mere symbol of what God does for us. It is not just a ceremony done to connect someone outwardly to a church. God is at work through baptism. He is connecting us to Christ’s death and resurrection. All of his mercy and grace are directed at the person being baptized. The Holy Spirit is giving the new life of faith in Jesus. The results are amazing: buried and raised with Christ; clothed with Christ; washed clean of sin; a forgiven, believing child of God; an heir of eternal life."
^Beliefs of other Church. WELS Topical Q&A. Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. [4 Feb 2015]. (原始内容存档于2009-09-27). As Confessional Lutherans we believe in baptismal regeneration, the real presence of Christ's body and blood in the Lord's Supper, and infant baptism.
^WELS Topical Q&A: Baptism and Salvation, "1 Peter 3:21 explicitly ascribes salvation through baptism. Titus 3:4-6 explicitly ascribe salvation and rebirth through the Spirit's work in baptism. All references to the forgiveness of sins that flow through baptism(e.g., Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16)identify baptism as an instrument through which God channels blessings associated with salvation."
^Infant Baptism. WELS Topical Q&A. Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. [14 Oct 2015]. (原始内容存档于29 April 2014). In baptism, however, we do not do something for God, rather he does something for us and in us. He works to either create or to strengthen faith. It is true that neither baptism nor the proclamation of the gospel will benefit anyone apart from faith. However, through the proclamation of the gospel and through baptism the Holy Spirit works faith. The means of grace have the power to create the faith they require.
