One of the three gun barrels mounted in a triple turret (B turret) from the battleship "Gneisenau". The B turret was mounted at Sotra, outside Bergen, Norway, after "Gneisenau" was damaged in an air raid attack in 1942. The main armament (nine 28,3 cm guns in triple towers) were removed and placed as coastal defence in Norway (Austrått and Fjell) and in Holland. This photo shows one of the barrels being unloaded in Bergen (at Dokken), Norway, before shipping to Sotra and hauled up to the coastal fortress being constructed. |
