Interwiki

[编辑]

I'm not sure how to go about not adding the links to the empty wiki pages. I'm using the standard python interwiki bot, and it will add the pages as long as it can find something for that title (including just a page with some interwiki links).

Could you give me an example of a page that is empty, so I can ask on the mailing list to see if the developers can filter them out? Thanks.

I checked the page that you had specified, and disagrees with you that the bot is behaving incorrectly.

Knowing absolutely nothing about the Mogolian language, I can only say that the page looks like just like the repeat of the title, with the translated Chinese name thrown in. These types of pages are flagged fairly quickly for deletion on the Chinese wiki and handled accordingly to either add to the content or deleted. However, I don't see any markings on the Mogolian wiki for clean up. I don't think it is the responsiblity of an interwiki bot to be the quasi-admin of a wiki. Each wikipedia has their own admins and policies. If they are not deleting the basically useless pages, I certainly will not be doing it (via bot or manually), not knowing what is the plan for the pages. Since you understand the language, I would suggest you to get the admin for that wiki to do something about those pages. The program detects completely blank pages only, since it is not intelligent enough to figure out what is "good content" for all of the wikis.

As to having some sort of huamn override, how is a program supposed to figure out the link has been overwritten? Unless I do some fairly exhaustive checks on the edit history of both, read the edit comments (hopefully both in languages that I understand), I can't even figure out as a person. There is an option "-neverlink:xx" to completelly ignore a language, but that would ignore all of the good articles as well. As one of the many operators of the python based interwiki bot, and not one of the developers, I can't even begin to figure out how to even request an enhancement. I would suggest you post on the talk page for it on Meta, or ask the mailing list for the enhancement, so the actual requirements can be hashed out. The mailing list information can be found at m:Interwiki_bot/Operators. --Vina 06:00 2006年1月6日 (UTC)

I don't understand Mongolian well enough to communicate with the admins.
"Neverlink" sounds great to me - at least for Uyghur. Uyghur Wikipedia has 39 articles, about 30 of which are empty and of the rest, some are in a weird transcription system used by exiles in Europe only. They can't even agree on which writing system to use. The interface is incomplete, so I for me it's impossible to edit articles, because history and other pages don't display properly due to left-right right-left conflicts. It's a mess, and I can't even reach the admins - if there are any. Yes, I think bots should not add links to the Uyghur Wikipedia until it becomes a substantial project. The same might apply to other versions of Wikipedia that have less than something like 100 articles and are in such a state. —Babelfisch 02:12 2006年1月9日 (UTC)
