豎中指手勢。

豎中指為手勢之一，僅伸中指一指而其他指下壓。當一個人對着另一個人面前做出中指手勢時在粵語中俗稱畀中指（英語：giving someone the middle finger，或寫作比中指或俾中指[a]），而把中指手勢抬高向他人示意時則俗稱舉中指。因為該手勢廣泛流傳，常被人戲稱為「國際手勢」。

中指的手勢在古希臘可指雞姦，用來鄙視、恐嚇或威脅他人。[1]也能指陰莖，同時旁邊的手指為睾丸。[2]或許，這一舉動還可能作避邪的效用。[3]在一世紀的地中海地區，伸直手指還是許多用來轉移無時不在的惡魔之眼注意的方法之一。[4]

在希臘語中這個手勢叫做「katapugon」[5][6] （「κατάπυγον」，由「kata」- κατά，「向下」[7]和「pugē」 - πυγή，「臀部」組成[8]）。在古希臘喜劇，這手勢還是對人的侮辱，因「katapugon」同樣說一個接受雞姦的男人[9]或者katapugaina一個女人。[10]在亞里斯多芬尼斯（Aristophanes）的喜劇The Clouds（423 BC）里[11]，當劇中角色Socrates問學生韻律時，Strepsiades聲稱他十分了解強弱弱格（dactyl），並比出了中指。這手勢說希臘語詞「dactylos」的雙關義：手指（dactyly）；一種由一聲長和兩聲短的格律（像手指的關節— ‿ ‿ ——這在中世紀的拉丁文中也是陰莖睾丸的雙關）[12]）。Socrates對此反應很劇烈。[11][13]這個手勢在Peace中作為嘲笑再次出現。[14][15]之後它的用法在Suda得到解釋。[16][17]詞組「to play the Siphnian」出現在亞里斯多芬尼斯的一個片段中，也有類似的意義。[18][19]在Suda中這個用法又有解釋，據說是「用手指摸肛門」的意思。[20]第歐根尼·拉爾修（Diogenes Laertius）記錄了犬儒學派的哲學家第歐根尼在公元前4世紀的雅典是如何對演說家德摩斯梯尼比出手勢的。[21]在Discourses of Epictetus中，第歐根尼的對象則是另外一個詭辯家。[22]

一個廣為流傳，關於豎中指手勢的起源的訛傳：在英法百年戰爭後期的阿金科特戰役，英格蘭長弓兵讓法軍損失慘重，法軍發誓在擊敗英軍後，將英軍弓箭手拉弓的中指斬斷。但結果法軍慘敗。在法軍撤退時，英軍弓箭手紛紛伸出右手中指，炫耀他們依然存在的中指。以上關於豎中指的起源敘述是不正確的。[23]

在古羅馬，這個手勢稱為「digitus impudicus」，一種來侮辱別人手勢。

在加拿大，前總理皮埃爾·特魯多對反對者使用這個手勢後，豎中指被稱為「特魯多問候」（Trudeau salute）。

類似手勢[編輯]

在日本手語、台灣手語、韓國手語等日本手語系的手語中，雙手豎中指手勢代表兄弟，而手的移動方向則表示具體是「哥哥」還是「弟弟」[24][25]。
