Windows XP移除的功能
身為Windows 2000技術的繼任者，Windows XP在引入諸多新功能的同時，亦移除諸多舊功能。下面將介紹XP系統移除的功能。

內核[編輯]
- 移除不安全設備對話框被刪除[1]。
- Windows資源管理器中不可以查看小圖標[2]。
- 「桌面圖標排列」命令不可用，由「對齊到網格」命令取代[3]，該切換簡化桌面圖標位置調整的操作，無需單擊確定圖標的位置[4]:47。
- 任務欄隱藏了「最小化所有窗口」命令[4]:76，以「顯示桌面」取代，但該命令仍被保留，實際功能僅是暫時隱藏窗口而不是減少窗口數量，該命令仍能透過鍵盤熱鍵組合
Win+M激活。 - 鑑於圖標的色彩豐富，「顯示」屬性中「使用所有可用的顏色顯示圖標」選項刪除[5]。
- 「顯示」屬性「設置」選項卡中「視頻圖形陣列顯示分辨率」和「8位顏色深度選項」被移除，可以利用高級選項調用，但這種功能已不支持[6]。
- 文件夾「Web視圖」默認禁用，可透過編輯註冊表恢復。此外，「定製文件夾嚮導」被刪除[7]。由於Web視圖的刪除，打開驅動器時顯示磁盤空間的餅圖不能顯示[8]。
- 在地址欄瀏覽文件路徑地址[9]、可移動驅動器[10]、在資源管理器打開網絡共享導航窗格（或文件夾）時，底部狀態欄不再顯示文件所在磁盤的剩餘空間，僅顯示驅動器路徑的剩餘空間。這與前文提到的被刪除的拼圖相結合，意味着不可在剩下的三個驅動器中即時查看剩餘空間。
- 命令提示符中，快速編輯模式和插入模式默認禁用，僅能重新啟動每個窗口的標題[11]。
- 目錄圖標從網絡鄰居移除[12]。
- Windows資源管理器的默認排序順序改變，可通過編輯註冊表恢復[13]。
- 聯繫電話撥號器[14]和網絡會議[15]從開始菜單移除。
個性化設置[編輯]
- Windows 2000中的桌面主題工具，即Microsoft Plus!98和後來被2000引入的用以選擇應用主題和預覽主題的主題工具中「每月主題更換」選項被移除，在XP中成為「顯示」屬性中「主題」選項卡。
- 「顯示」屬性中「外觀」選項卡不可保存或刪除方案。
- 「顯示」屬性中選擇「背景」（2000）/桌面（XP）圖案模式選項卡被刪除。
- 三維迷宮（可能由於Windows徽標改變）和三維管道屏保被刪除，三維管道中茶壺復活節彩蛋不適用於XP。
合併應用程式[編輯]
- Windows 98附加程序及2000程序——豪華版「CD播放程式」被刪除[16]。取而代之的Windows Media Player中不含原有的上傳音軌信息[17]、點播下載音軌信息、音軌預覽等功能。
- DVD播放器簡化成Windows Media Player的樁。
- Imaging for Windows被「圖片和傳真查看器」和「掃描儀和相機嚮導」取代[18]，但這兩個程序不包括映像的高級功能[19]。
協議[編輯]
- NetDDE和NetBIOS不再在默認情況下安裝，但可透過Windows XP CD-ROM安裝[20][21]。
- 數據鏈路控制網絡協議不再包括在系統內，但微軟提供協議下載[22]。
- 可路由協議組不再包括[23]。
子系統[編輯]
- POSIX子系統由Windows Services for UNIX3.0或更高版本取代[24] 。
- OS/2子系統被刪除[24]。

硬件支持[編輯]
- 不再支持調製解調器、網卡及低於28.8Kbps的調製解調器原生支持等非即插即用網絡設備[25]
- 大量SCSI主機適配器不再支持[26]。
- XP降低對NECPC-98[24]和硅谷圖形公司320型和540型圖形工作站的支持[20]。
後續版本[編輯]
Service Pack 2[編輯]
- 原始套接字支持大多被移除[27]。
- TCP半開鏈接數量受限[28]。
- 程序管理器變成根。
- Internet Explorer 6捆綁版本中的媒體欄[29]被電台工具欄[30]取代，不再出現在打包版本的IE6中。
- Outlook Express捆綁版本移除了後台信息壓縮特性[31] ，禁用該特性，每壓縮消息一百次，該程序將不被運行。
Service Pack 3[編輯]
- 任務欄中的「地址」工具欄因法律原因被微軟移除[32]，取代其的功能「Windows桌面搜索」遭鼓吹。
- Internet Explorer桌面圖標的特殊顯示設置被移除[33]。
- Service Pack 3不累積以前安裝的服務包的內容，至少需要先安裝SP1，SP2則包含在媒體中心Windows XP版和2003版中[34][35]。微軟證實可以進行尾流累積[36]。
Media Center Edition 2005[編輯]
- 儘管用於Windows XP專業版的媒體中心2005版正在開發中，但其域名支持不可用。微軟表示這是需要用戶快速切換到Windows媒體中心擴展器[37]，但在安裝或升級前就已使用該功能的情況下例外，但這之後的域名支持被禁用。
- Windows Media Player6.4不包含在內。
