東南亞友好合作條約

《東南亞友好合作條約》由東南亞國家聯盟發起國於1976年2月24日在印尼峇里島舉行的東盟第一次首腦會議上簽署的。所有東盟成員國隨後成為簽約國。1987年，東盟修改《條約》，邀請東南亞地區以外國家加入《條約》，以便建立信心、促進和平與安全，並推動地區繁榮。[1]

2009年7月22日，美國國務卿希拉里·羅德姆·克林頓簽署美國加入《東南亞友好合作條約》協議書（Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation）。與此同時，東盟十個國家的外交部長簽署擴大《東南亞友好合作條約》協議書，（Instrument of Extension of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia），完成美國入約程序。 《條約》各方作出的承諾之一是，促進永久和平、長期友好以及在經濟、社會、文化、技術和科學領域的合作。美國加入《條約》的行動是美國希望與東盟在區域和全球重大事務中進行更深入和更有效接觸的象徵。
