尤金·奈達（Eugene A. Nida，1914年11月11日—2011年8月25日）是美國語言學家和翻譯家，他提出了「動態對等」的聖經翻譯理論。
生平[編輯]
奈達出生於美國奧克拉荷馬城，1936年畢業於加利福尼亞大學，獲拉丁文學位榮譽，1939年獲希臘語《聖經新約》研究的碩士學位，1943年於密歇根大學獲得語言學博士學位，同年開始在美國聖經公會任職。他把語言學應用於聖經翻譯，創建了富有自己特色的翻譯理論。[2]1995年香港中文大學逸夫書院邀請了奈達出席訪問學人講座，以「邁向二十一世紀的翻譯研究」為題發表演說。[3]於2003年出版了自傳《Fascinated by Languages》。
翻譯理論[編輯]
奈達提出了「動態對等」的概念，認為翻譯是使用最切近而又最自然的對等語再現信息，但這種「內容為主，形式為次」的說法引起了不少誤解，因此他後來改稱為「功能對等」，要求信息內容對等的同時，要盡可能形式對等。[2]
聖經翻譯[編輯]
奈達有「現代聖經翻譯之父」的稱譽，對於聖經翻譯的理論和實踐甚至是整個聯合聖經公會的發展貢獻重大。在奈達加入聖經公會時，當時的聖經翻譯採用「形式對等」（formal equivalence）原則，強調譯入語盡量與原文的對應字句和詞序相乎，但當譯入語和原文語言的差異較大時，只會使譯文變得生硬和含糊。於是奈達推動另一種翻譯方法，只要譯入語能表達原文意思的信息，譯入語便可以自由調動詞序。[4]
