弗雷迪·格雷（英語：Freddie Gray，1989年8月16日－2015年4月19日），非裔美國人，因私藏彈簧刀被巴爾的摩警察局拘留，在押送期間，格雷因脊髓和喉頭受傷陷入昏迷，被送往創傷中心接受救治[1][2][3]，最終於2015年4月19日不治身亡[3]。

受傷的情況目前尚未明確，目擊者認為，警方在逮捕格雷時動用了不必要的武力，但涉事警員否認該說法[2][3][4]。2015年4月21日，為了調查該事件，六名巴爾的摩警察被帶薪停職[2]。局長安東尼·巴茨（Anthony Batts）表示警方未給格雷提供及時的醫療救助，也沒有在前往警察局時將格雷扣緊[5]——醫學調查報告表明格雷在運輸過程中曾遭到傷害[5][6]。

2015年4月12日，警方在巴爾的摩高度貧窮、高利貸、毒品交易和暴力犯罪盛行的吉摩爾之家住宅項目（Gilmor Homes）附近的街道上碰到格雷[13]。根據巴爾的摩警察局提供的報告[1][14]，上午8點39分，警方「眼神接觸」了格雷[13][15]，「意外注意到警察」的格雷慌忙逃跑，被追上去的警察不用武力抓獲。逮捕期間，警察表示從格雷「前方的右側口袋搜到一把藏匿的彈簧刀。收繳了小刀的警察發現彈簧使得小刀能單手使用[4][16]。」警察加勒特·米勒（Garrett Miller）以格雷違法19 59 22法令為由正式指控被告「在巴爾的摩市範圍內非法攜帶、持有和出售一把帶有自動彈簧或其他刀片開關裝置、通常被稱為彈簧刀的小刀」。調查發現這個指控不正確，因為那把刀只是可以折合，而可折合的刀是合法的[17]。

根據警方時間表，格雷遭拘捕後有11分鐘呆在運輸車裏，30分鐘後被傳喚的醫護人員把他送往醫院[22]。麵包車曾停下來四次。上午8點46分，警方認為格雷「怒火中燒」，就把他卸下，給他戴腳鐐。後來的停車被一名私人保安的相機記錄下來，顯示出麵包車在一家雜貨店處。上午8點59分，第二名犯人被帶上車子，此事警方正檢查格雷的身體狀況。在警方報告中，米勒表示「車子行至西區期間，曾對被告人實施急救，並立即前往創傷中心[4][23][24]。昏迷中的格雷最終被帶到馬里蘭州大學R·亞當斯·考利創傷休克中心（University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center）[25]。

巴爾的摩警察局不停薪暫停了六名涉事警察的職務以調查格雷的死。這六名警察分別為中尉布萊恩·賴斯（Brian Rice，從警18年），41歲、中士艾莉西亞·懷特（Alicia White，從警5年），30歲、警官威廉·波特（William Porter，從警5年），25歲、警官加勒特·米勒（Garrett Miller，從警3年），26歲、警官愛德華·尼祿（Edward Nero，從警3年），29歲和警官凱撒·古德森（Caesar Goodson，從警16年），45歲[29]。警察局長安東尼·巴茨2015年4月24日表示，「我們知道我們的警察僱員多次沒有將他及時送醫[5]。」他也承認，警方將格雷帶上麵包車前往警察局時沒能將他鎖緊[5]。美國司法部亦開始案件的調查[30]。

2015年4月30日，曾錄下格雷被捕過程的證人凱文·摩爾（Kevin Moore）在槍口脅迫下被警方以「騷擾和恐嚇罪」逮捕。摩爾表示，他已跟警方合作，把格雷被捕的視頻交出以作調查。他聲稱雖說是在協助調查，他的照片卻被警方公開以作進一步調查[31]。他後來獲釋，但和摩爾一同被捕的兩個證人仍然在押[32]。當天，法醫表示格雷撞進麵包車引起持續的傷害。「顯然他的脖子被弄斷，頭部的持續傷痕與麵包車後部的螺栓相吻合[6]。

2015年5月1日，巴爾的摩檢察官辦公室裁定弗雷迪·格雷系他殺致死，有可能向六名涉事警察提出刑事指控。巴爾的摩州律師瑪麗蓮·莫斯（Marilyn Mosby）表示，巴爾的摩警方採用非法行動，而「（弗雷迪·格雷）犯罪」[33]。莫斯說，格雷「被戴上手銬和腳鐐時頸部遭受關鍵受傷，在警方車輛內行為奔放[34][35]。」莫斯表示，警方「未能給出逮捕格雷先生的原因，因為他沒有犯罪[36]。」莫斯指控警方非法禁錮罪，因為隔離攜帶的小刀屬合法尺寸，並不是警方所聲稱的格雷被捕時持有的彈簧刀[17]。六名警察被拘留在巴爾的摩中央懲處與人事中心（Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center）[37][38]。

公眾對格雷之死的反應，與2014年米高·布朗槍擊案相似，美國警察動用武力，尤其是向非裔美國人成為爭議的焦點[41][42]。截至2015年4月30日，全國範圍內有22場示威直接回應格雷的死亡，或聲援巴爾的摩[43]。

市長在新聞發佈會上宣佈晚上10點至凌晨5點全市範圍內實行宵禁。[59][60][61][62][59][60]，學校旅行被取消至五月中旬[61][63]，4月28日關閉全市學校[64]。此外，市中心的馬里蘭州大學校區和Mondawmin超市提前關閉[65]。

美國多個城市也爆發抗議。2015年4月29日，143名紐約人在聯合廣場因堵塞交通和拒絕離場而被捕。同日，近500名抗議者聚集在華盛頓特區白宮門外。在丹佛，有11名示威者因與警方有肢體衝突而被捕。芝加哥[66]、費城[67]、明尼阿波利斯和波特蘭也有針對格雷死亡的抗議。
