阿奇博爾德·孟雅斯

阿奇博爾德·孟雅斯（英語：Archibald Menzies，
i/ˈmɪŋɪs/ MING-iss）（1754年3月15日—1842年2月15日）是英國蘇格蘭植物學家和醫生。
生平[編輯]
他出生於蘇格蘭佩斯郡威姆村[1]一直和他的哥哥在愛丁堡皇家植物園工作，受到愛丁堡大學的教授賞識，鼓勵他去學醫，學後成為皇家海軍的一位外科助理醫師，曾參加過桑特海峽戰役，和平時期在加拿大的新斯科舍哈利法克斯站服役。
1786年，他被任命為「威爾斯親王」號軍醫，隨艦繞過合恩角到北太平洋從事毛皮貿易，曾到達美國、中國和夏威夷，一路搜集許多植物標本。1789年回到英國，1790年，被選為倫敦林奈學會會員。
同年，他隨「發現號」進行全球旅行探險，[2][3] 1794年，在夏威夷過冬時，他攀登了冒納羅亞火山最高峰，他在夏威夷留下了從南非帶來的柑橘種子[4]。
1795年，在和智利總督一起進餐時，要了一些智利南洋杉的種子，他在船上培育，到回英國時已經成活了5棵[5]。
探險結束後，他在西印度群島海軍服役，1799年，獲得阿伯丁大學醫學博士學位，退役後，在倫敦諾丁山做外科醫生，並成為倫敦林奈學會理事長。他在倫敦去世，沒有子女。
命名[編輯]
有些植物是以他的名字命名的，如瓔珞杜鵑花屬（Menziesia），北美黃杉（Pseudotsuga menziesii）[6]，杜鵑花科最大的植物草莓樹（Arbutus menziesii ）等。
