開眼亞目，又稱鎗烏賊、魷魚亞目，^[1]^[2]是身體細長、呈長錐形，有十隻觸腕、其中兩隻明顯較長，肉鰭只集中在頭部；開眼亞目另一個明顯特徵是在所有的觸手的吸盤上都帶有倒鈎刺，雖然小型魷魚的倒鈎刺可能作為一種口感被人類食用，但是大型魷魚的卻成為所有無脊椎動物門中最具有攻擊性的觸手。

開眼亞目和閉眼亞目一同屬於管魷目，和墨魚目（即墨魚）、八腕總目（即章魚）一樣都會噴墨、會變化顏色、嘴裏也像牠們一樣有鸚鵡嘴狀的齒舌口器；魷魚因為身體細長、呈流線型而非常適合游泳，但是快速移動時只能以噴射的方式直線後退，靈活性不如墨魚、腦容量更是遠低於章魚，不過游泳速度卻是頭足綱內最快的，有些物種甚至可以「飛」出水面一小段距離^[3]。

分類及名稱上的混淆[編輯]

管魷目下包括魷魚和鎖管，英文中的「squid」，指的就是管魷目下兩大亞目的動物總稱，可以和中文的「魷魚」對應。閉眼亞目的動物在中文裏總稱為鎖管；開眼亞目的動物則還是為魷魚，故「魷魚」一詞配合規範中文的語境會有着2種意思，一個是指管魷目、一個是指開眼亞目。另外，亦有部分分類把開眼亞目提升成為開眼目（Oegopsida）又可稱魷魚目。

天敵[編輯]

一般的海魚要想捕獵魷魚並不容易，因為魷魚的墨汁還含有毒素，可以用來麻痺敵害。海豚是魷魚的天敵之一，海豚會繞過煙幕窮追魷魚。海豚只食用魷魚的頭部，一隻海豚能吞下成百隻魷魚的頭。抹香鯨也是其天敵之一。
