哲學、政治學及經濟學
哲學、政治學及經濟學（英語：Philosophy, Politics and Economics，縮寫：PPE）是一個受歡迎的跨學科本科和研究學位，課程內容由三個學科組成。該專業被譽為「人文學科塔尖的皇冠」，最頂級的人文學科專業之一。
第一個提供PPE學位的高等院校是牛津大學。1980年代，約克大學根據牛津的模式創立了自己的PPE學位；隨後，華威大學、曼徹斯特大學以及其他英國大學也爭相仿效。英國廣播公司稱這個學位「支配著英國的大眾生活」（"dominate[s] public life"） [1]目前，世界上許多知名的大學也提供此課程。
歷史[編輯]
PPE學位1920年代創立於牛津大學，[2]角色是作為一個西洋古典學的現代替代方案（因為當時人們認為哲學以及古代史課程已經不再適合那些將進入公共服務的學生）。它最初被稱為現代經學（英語：Modern Greats）。[1][3]克里斯多福·史特里指出本課程的出現是導致古典主義學習衰落的其中一個原因，因為古典主義者的政治生涯開始被現代經學的學習者取代。[4]
Dario Castiglione and Iain Hampsher-Monk更形容課程是英國政治思想發展的基礎，因為它建立了政治與哲學之間的聯繫。在這之前，在牛津以及劍橋里，政治學往往只被當作現代史的分支般教授[5]。
課程內容[編輯]
課程設計紮根於一個觀點，就是必須透過幾個互補的學術方向和分析框架去認識社會現象。在這方面，哲學的研習十分重要，因為它賦予了學生各種元數據，例如理智與邏輯，並能促進道德上的反思。同時，政治學的學習也是必要的，因為它使學生認識管治社會的慣例和幫助解決共同行動的各種問題。最後，學習經濟學在現代世界也是至關重要的，因為政治決策關乎經濟事務，而政府的決策也往往受各種經濟活動的影響。大部分牛津PPE學生會在二年級或三年級時退修其中一個科目。牛津大學目前共有超過600名本科生就讀此課程，每年取錄超過200人。[6]

牛津PPE畢業生Nick Cohen以及前課程導師Iain McLean認為課程的寬度對它的吸引力來說相當重要，特別是因為英國社會重視通才多於專才（「Because British society values generalists over specialists」）。
一名牛津大學的政治學研究員和高級講師Geoffrey Evans評論牛津的PPE課程，說它的成功以及高需求是一個國家行政背後的自我延續特色，並指出「總括來說，這顯示了階級系統如何運作。」（「All in all, it's how the class system works」）。在當前的經濟系統中，他慨嘆那些不能避免的不公平不斷圍攻和批評課程的收生水平以及畢業生令人羨慕的就業前景。這個觀點作為一個父愛主義道德的反映，顯示了政府以及人民們如何去理解社會階層。[1]
