English: Basilica of Saint Nicholas, Bari, Apulia, Italy. Following the 1456 earthquake, three arches have been added to reinforce the structure of the building. The first and the third ones (respectively not visible and in the background on the photo) were built between 1458 and 1463 by the Prince of Taranto Giovanni Antonio del Balzo Orsini. The center arch (in the foreground on the photo) is by Ludovico il Moro of the Milan Sforza family in 1494. All three bear the coat of arms of their patrons.
Français : Basilique San Nicola, Bari, Pouilles, Italie. Suite au tremblement de terre de 1456, trois arcs ont été construits pour renforcer la structure de l’édifice. Le premier et le troisième (respectivement non visible et en arrière-plan sur la photo) l’ont été entre 1458 et 1463 par le prince de Tarente Jean-Antoine del Balzo Orsini. Celui du milieu (au premier plan sur la photo) a été construit par Ludovic le More de la famille des Sforza de Milan en 1494. Les trois arcs portent les armoiries des bienfaiteurs. |
