滑板活動是一種包括騎行及有技巧性表演的極限運動，滑板也可視為一種休閒運動、藝術、職業工作或運輸工具[1]。多年來滑板運動遍及全球各地，根據2009年報告顯示滑板市場極為暢銷，估計價值有48億美金，年收入高達1108萬美金[2]。從1970年代開始，為喜歡玩滑板、自由式車手、職業級的車手所精心設置的滑板場地[3]。
安全
滑板活動請注意到自身安全，無論是直排輪還是滑板車，旁邊無保護裝置，會面臨安全問題，一旦遇上凹凸不平、有些微裂縫的路面，倘若不當使用不規則的技巧通過去時，容易跌倒摔傷的風險極高[4]。重傷較為少見，通常是應注意安全而不去注意，自己造成擦傷、割傷、瘀傷、扭傷[5]，去了醫院檢查的報告出爐，大多是手部和腳部的輕微性骨折[4]。
滑板在車潮極多的道路上活動有一定的交通風險，切記請勿橫衝直撞，後果不堪設想[6]。倘若穿上安全裝備(如：安全帽、護腕)，減少傷亡的風險，也請盡量避開車多的道路區域，來維護自身安全[4]。
