针尾沙锥体重约113克，翼长约126.8毫米，嘴峰长约65.7毫米，喙宽度约5.2毫米，喙厚度约6.9毫米，跗蹠长约30.5毫米，尾长约44毫米。针尾沙锥是候鸟，其栖息在开放的湖泊、沼泽等湿地环境中，食性为肉食性，主要食物来源是水生动物。[3]

分布

西伯利亚；冬季印度至东南亚、印度尼西亚和菲律宾。[4]
