19世紀的學院派藝術時期是人類繪畫發展的巔峰，沒有任何其他時期產出了如此華麗優雅的作畫技術和靈魂。誰說栩栩如生的逼真無法優美的浪漫想像混合？誰說「真實」必定與「抽象」不相容的？為何不能將人們的現實經驗與抽象內涵完全融合？維多利亞時期的學院派畫家們對此進行了挑戰，結果便創造了這些令人嘆為觀止的藝術成就，他們筆下的裸體神話人物被賦予了凡間的真實生命、同時卻又展現超乎異常的豪華和優美，古典與浪漫的驚豔結合，讓人類其他時期的所有藝術都要甘拜下風。
可惜的是，進入了20世紀，如同其他許多同時流逝的理想一般，印象派和現代主義的猖獗終結了這段人類藝術的巔峰。在這些現代主義者將學院藝術詆毀為「華而不實」、「資產階級」、「庸俗藝術」的同時，他們樂見這些優美的神話人物被以幾百幾十元的賤價拍賣，同時也自豪於他們膚淺的貼紙塗鴉被以數千萬元得標。值得慶幸的是，到了1980年代這個奇妙的時期，潮流開始逆轉，學院藝術又重新獲得重視了。
以下我便將這些人類藝術的巔峰作品以畫廊方式展出。注意到這當中也包括了前拉斐爾派。我最喜歡的是右邊獨立展出的這位女孩，個人認為這是世界上最迷人的睡姿了。
