19世纪的学院派艺术时期是人类绘画发展的巅峰，没有任何其他时期产出了如此华丽优雅的作画技术和灵魂。谁说栩栩如生的逼真无法优美的浪漫想像混合？谁说“真实”必定与“抽象”不相容的？为何不能将人们的现实经验与抽象内涵完全融合？维多利亚时期的学院派画家们对此进行了挑战，结果便创造了这些令人叹为观止的艺术成就，他们笔下的裸体神话人物被赋予了凡间的真实生命、同时却又展现超乎异常的豪华和优美，古典与浪漫的惊艳结合，让人类其他时期的所有艺术都要甘拜下风。

可惜的是，进入了20世纪，如同其他许多同时流逝的理想一般，印象派和现代主义的猖獗终结了这段人类艺术的巅峰。在这些现代主义者将学院艺术诋毁为“华而不实”、“资产阶级”、“庸俗艺术”的同时，他们乐见这些优美的神话人物被以几百几十元的贱价拍卖，同时也自豪于他们肤浅的贴纸涂鸦被以数千万元得标。值得庆幸的是，到了1980年代这个奇妙的时期，潮流开始逆转，学院艺术又重新获得重视了。

以下我便将这些人类艺术的巅峰作品以画廊方式展出。注意到这当中也包括了前拉斐尔派。我最喜欢的是右边独立展出的这位女孩，个人认为这是世界上最迷人的睡姿了。
