美洲拟啄木鸟属（学名：Capito，中国大陆作美洲拟啄木鸟属，台湾作美洲拟䴕属）是啄木鸟目美洲拟啄木鸟科下的一个属。[2]本属鸟类主要分布于巴拿马以南的南美洲地区。[3]其鸟喙粗壮、鼻孔呈圆形，尾巴长度不到翅膀的三分之二，羽毛的性别差异极小。[4][3]通常牠们会具有白色的眉纹、脸侧黑色、白色的喉部与黄色胸腹间有一道红色横纹区隔两者等共有特征。[4]
命名与分类[编辑]
本属由法国鸟类学家路易·皮埃尔·维埃约于1816年为红喉拟啄木鸟建立，其模式种也因此为该物种。[1][2][5]其学名Capito来自拉丁语capito，意指“大头的”。[6]
在生物分类学中，本属与黄嘴须䴕属鸟类为姊妹群。[7]该两属与目前独立一科的巨嘴拟啄木鸟属鸟类一同代表了南美洲的拟啄木鸟种群。[8]
