The 'Flugzeugwerft' (maintenance facility) at Dresden-Klotzsche airport was an interesting place where exotic MiG-21's and -23's could be seen.
Despite the East German national markings this MiG-21 was not owned by the Nationale Volksarmee/Luftstreitkräfte. I've found out (and hopefully the information is correct) that this is in fact an Iraqi AF MiG-21UM with construction number 516969066. The code 8236 is only a maintenance number. The MiG went back to Iraq just in time to be destroyed during the First Gulf War. Well, probably, as the Iraqi serial number remains unknown.
There were more of these silver aircraft in the hangars, all with East German markings. And also several 'desert' MiG-21's that were destined for the Iranian AF, but never left and were finally scrapped.
