This is a daily pressure chart of North Atlantic Ocean and Europe based on measured values (analysis).

Source: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/europe/europe_forecast.html Geostrophic-flow conditions are set when the isobars are approximately parallel and equally spaced. The air masses move in a stream flow along the isobars.

An air stream flow of global scale, approximately along parallels, from Labrador (Canada) across the North Atlantic Ocean as fas as inner Russia. The wind is westerly with higher-pressure systems on its right and lower-pressure systems on its left (northern-hemisphere arrangement)
