Catawba Island Township is one of the twelve townships of Ottawa County, 俄亥俄州, 美国. The 2000 census found 3,157 people in the township.[3] Aside from Mouse Island, there is not a single notable island within the township.
地理
[编辑]The township is located in the northeastern part of the county on the northern point of the Marblehead Peninsula, forming its own peninsula — not an island — into Lake Erie. It borders the following townships:
- Put-in-Bay Township - 北, across Lake Erie
- Kelleys Island - 北east, across Lake Erie
- Danbury Township - 东南
- Portage Township - 南west
No municipalities are located in Catawba Island Township.
Name and history
[编辑]It is the only Catawba Island Township statewide. The township's website claims that it was named for the variety of grapes that grew plentifully there,[4] while another source claims that it is named for the Catawba tribe, who once lived in the Carolinas.[5]
Although not an actual island, but rather a peninsula, tradition states that older settlers could remember the Portage River flowing into Lake Erie at a location where a ditch currently resides near West Harbor. This old channel of the river would have made Catawba into an actual island.[6]
A huge part of the township is located within the Firelands, the westernmost section of the Connecticut Western Reserve.

[编辑]镇区有3人组成的理事会管理。理事会理事选举在奇数年11月举行，并在来年1月1日开始四年任期。两名理事的选举在总统选举后一年举行，另一名的选举在总统选举前一年举行。镇区财务官亦由选举产生[7]，与一名镇区理事选举同时举行，不过在来年4月1日才开始四年任期。若财务官或理事职位有空缺，将由剩余理事填补。
