《天堂在405号公路塞车》是由本片主角明迪·阿尔珀与导演法兰克·史提弗尔之间超过20小时的访谈内容整理而成。
阿尔珀是一名视觉艺术家，她利用生动的绘画及混凝纸浆雕塑呈现出她内心的焦虑、沮丧、创伤和其他负面情绪。[6]
片名灵感来自于阿尔珀，她表示，除了艺术之外，唯一可以让她感觉自在的情况便是坐在壅堵的车阵中。[7]
