潮土油

潮土油[1][2]（英語：petrichor）是指雨水落在乾燥土壤上時產生的氣味、下雨時泥土的芳香[3]，或「初雨味」。
英語 petrichor 來自希臘神話的古希臘語 πέτρα（pétra，岩 rock)，或 πέτρος（pétros，石 stone），以及 ἰχώρ（ikhṓr，以太液[4][5]，天神的血，希臘神話中在神的血管內流動的體液)；其意思就是「剛下雨時，會聞到來自岩石逸出神的血」[6]。

這個術語是由兩位澳大利亞CSIRO研究人員，Isabel 'Joy' Bear和Richard G. Thomas，在1964年為在《自然》雜誌上發表的一篇文章創造的[7][8]。根據該篇文章的描述，這種氣味產生於某些植物在乾旱期間滲出的油，這些油分泌後被黏土和岩石吸收。下雨時，這種油與土臭素（某些放線菌的代謝副產物）一起釋放到空氣中，產生獨特的氣味。如果下雨伴隨閃電，這些氣味中也可能含有臭氧[9]。Bear和Thomas（1965）的一篇後續文章表明，這種油會阻礙種子萌發和早期植物生長[10]。
