1950年春，薩爾奧林匹克委員會^[1]於薩爾保護領正式成立。薩爾保護領於1947年到1956年之間存在，原為西德一部分，1945年被法國占領，1956年後成為西德聯邦州薩爾蘭。在1952年赫爾辛基奧運上，薩爾派出代表隊參賽，是其參加的唯一一屆奧運會，1956年後就併入西德隊。薩爾代表團共有31名男子和5名女子，參加9個大項、32個小項的比賽^[2]。
