當時中國人口恰好4.61億，根據華盛頓郵報1947年11月22日報道，Nanking, China, Nov.21 China's population today stood at 461 million, an increase of five million over last year, according to estimates of the ministry of the interior. Kiangsu Province--about the size of Iowa-- is most densely populated, with 36 million.
