黑人抬棺專業團隊來自加納阿散蒂地區。以本傑明·艾杜（Benjamin Aidoo）為首的{{lang|en|Nana Otafrija Pallbearing Services}}[4]團隊開始了持續的護柩服務。後來，本傑明·艾杜決定在他們的護柩工作中加入舞蹈。在葬禮上抬棺跳舞需要收取額外費用。[5]團隊首次成名於2017年，英國廣播公司、美聯社等在當時先後對他們進行了報道[6][7]。2020年4月，該團隊成為黑色幽默的網絡迷因，有網友為他們抬棺跳舞的視頻配上背景音樂，亦有網友將人們遭遇各種事故的片段與他們抬棺跳舞的片段進行混剪。這些視頻被廣泛地上傳至TikTok、YouTube、bilibili等影音網站，剪輯中所常用的音樂《Astronomia》也隨之在全球竄紅[8]。在巴西等地，該迷因也與COVID-19防疫的宣傳廣告相結合[9][10]。

加納還有類似的其他抬棺團隊。曾有團隊在抬棺起舞時不慎將棺材滑落，逝者被甩出[11][12]。
