2008年，厄尔薛拉以国际自由球员的身份与印地安人队签约[1]。2009年开启他的职业生涯，陆续在多米尼加夏联、亚利桑那秋联出赛[2]。2010年到2013年间，厄尔薛拉稳定地从小联盟1A升上2A。2013年，他还代表哥伦比亚国家队参加2013年世界棒球经典赛资格赛[3]。

2014年，厄尔薛拉升上3A[4][5]，季后列名大联盟40人名单当中。2015年季前，他在印地安人的新秀排行中排名第4[6]。2015年6月8日，他被拉上大联盟[7]。6月11日，他击出大联盟首安和首轰[8]。

2017年，厄尔薛拉代表哥伦比亚国家队参加世界棒球经典赛[9]。该年他在印地安人出赛67场比赛，打击率2成24[10]。

2018年5月9日，印地安人将厄尔薛拉交易至蓝鸟队，换取现金与一名日后指定球员[12]。6月26日，他又遭到球队给指定让渡[13]，并于7月3日度过让渡程序，下放至3A[14][15]。总计他仅代表蓝鸟出赛19场，打击率2成33，1轰3分打点，在蓝鸟3A则留下打击率2成44的成绩。

纽约洋基

2018年8月4日，蓝鸟队用厄尔薛拉向洋基队交易现金[16]，剩下球季厄尔薛拉都待在洋基3A。打击教练菲尔·普兰提尔帮助厄尔薛拉调整他的打击姿势，使他的成绩有所起色[17]。

2019年，因为洋基队阵中三垒手米格尔·安杜哈尔的右肩盂唇撕裂，厄尔薛拉接替了三垒位置[18][19]。该年厄尔薛拉的打击成绩开始有所进步，打击率3成19，20轰73分打点皆是生涯新高。8月29日，厄尔薛拉因为左腹股沟受伤而进入伤兵名单[20]，之后则因为手术而提前结束赛季。

2020年，厄尔薛拉荣膺三垒先发，在缩水赛季的60场比赛中出赛43场，期间仅在8月底因为鼠蹊伤势而短暂缺席[21]。他在2020年赛季的打击三围为.298/.368/.490，附带全垒打6次，打点30分，此外他在守备方面冠于全联盟（.992守备率）。9月30日，厄尔薛拉在美联外卡系列赛第二场击出满贯炮，帮助洋基晋级[注 1][22]。
