摘要

描述
English: North Korean soldiers watch a repatriation ceremony from a tower on the North Korean side Military Demarcation Line ("MDL"). During the ceremony, the remains of what were believed to have been five U.S. soldiers who served in the Korean war were returned to the South, passing across the MDL from North Korean soldiers to a United Nations Command Honor Guard. As they were passed across the MDL, a delegation from the U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars (some of whose members had served in the Korean War) saluted the remains. A spokesman for the U.N. Command said that the remains were uncovered in Gaechon City, about fifty miles north of the North Korean capital of Pyongyang. The U.S. 2nd Infantry Division retreated through the area late in 1950, travelling through a mountain pass occupied on both sides by Chinese soldiers. The pass was nicknamed "the Gauntlet" and, while making its way through, the division suffered nearly 5,000 casualties.
