霍華德·艾略特·齊默爾曼（英語：Howard Elliot Zimmerman，1926年7月5日—2012年2月12日），美國化學家，威斯康星大學麥迪遜分校化學教授。[3]他於1980年入選為美國國家科學院院士[4]，並於1986年榮獲美國化學家協會（AIC）（英語：American Institute of Chemists）化學先驅獎（英語：Chemical Pioneer Award）。[5][6]

生平[編輯]

霍華德·齊默爾曼是土生土長的康乃狄克州人。[7]在第二次世界大戰期間，他作為一名坦克炮手，服役於歐洲戰場的美軍裝甲軍團（英語：I Armored Corps (United States)）。他最終以技術中士（英語：Technical sergeant）軍階退役。[8]1950年，他獲得了耶魯大學化學理學學士學位，並在1953年取得了該校的哲學博士學位。[8]1953年至1954年，他作為美國國家科學研究委員會博士後獎學金研究員，與伍德沃德（哈佛大學)共事。[8]1954年至1960年，他以助理教授職位供職於西北大學。[8]1960年後，他調職威斯康星大學副教授，不久升任為正教授。1990年，他獲得了威斯康星大學希爾代爾物理科學獎。1991年，獲得美國化學會亞瑟·科普學者獎。[8]他一生共發表了超過285篇論文（11章），並曾在英語維基百科和德語維基百科以「Hezimmerman（英語：User:Hezimmerman）」身份參與創作。

齊默爾曼曾為美國化學會（ACS）開設了關於有機量子化學和分子軌道理論的短期課程，他曾撰寫了教科書《有機化學家的量子化學》（1975，Quantunm Mechanics for Organic Chemists）。[9]他也是1972年IUPAC光化學座談會（巴登-巴登）和五次環太平洋化學座談會（最後一次為2010年）的組織者之一。
