罗马史学

罗马史学根据希腊史学的基础而发展。如希罗多德和修昔底德的著作，深深影响著罗马史学，尽管罗马史学的发展并不如军事与政治^[1]，不过罗马史学也发展出独特的风格与特点^[2]。

不过罗马史学还是有与希腊史学不同之处，罗马史学就没有以口头腔调的传统历史。罗马史学的风格建立在大祭司（Pontifex Maximus）的史册，或大年代记（annales maximi）。或大年代记包括各种各样的资讯，包括宗教文件、领事名字、死亡的祭司，以及历史上的各种灾难。大年代记中部分是White Tablets，或“Tabulae Albatae”，这包括共和国起源的信息。

昆图斯·费边·皮克托尔是罗马史学基础的建立者，也被称为历史的创立者。第二次布匿战争之前，罗马几乎没有史学的发展，西元前后，他曾作为罗马史团成员出使希腊。西元前三世纪末，他用希腊语写成罗马史，从罗马起源一直到西元前世纪末。该书的出现是罗马史学兴起的滥觞。
