韩能

韩能爵士（ Sir Nicholas John Hannen ，1842年8月24日—1900年4月27日）是一名英国大律师、外交官和法官，韩能曾于1881年至1891年期间出任英国日本法院法官。1891年至1900年期间出任英国在华最高法院首席大法官（大英按察使司衙门按察使）[1]，1891年至1897年兼任英国驻上海总领事。
生平[编辑]
韩能曾就读于伦敦大学学院。1866年，他被内殿律师学院授予律师执业资格。 1868年。韩能移居上海市。1869年，韩能结婚。[2]
1871年至1874年，他出任英国在华及在日最高法院代理助理法官，当时他的办公地点位于日本横滨。[3]后来他又回到上海。 [4]
1891年，韩能出任英国在华及在日最高法院首席大法官兼英国驻上海总领事。[7]不过在华外籍人士反对韩能兼任领事，他们反对有人身兼司法和行政职务，因为这违反了三权分立。因而韩能是首位也是唯一一位兼任总领事的英国在华及在日最高法院首席大法官。 [8] 1897年，韩能不再兼任英国驻上海总领事，不过他继续担任英国在华及在日最高法院首席大法官。 [9]
死亡[编辑]
韩能原打算于1900年5月退休。 1900年4月27日，他因肺炎引起的心力衰竭而去世。 [11]他的葬礼在上海圣三一堂举行。 [12]他的骨灰被带回英国安葬。 [13]
海能路[编辑]
上海虹口区的海南路原名海能路（Hannen Road），该路路名就是出自韩能。后来该道路更名为海南路。
