萨尔瓦多国旗呈蓝白蓝三横条，中部白条内绘国徽。现行国旗由萨尔瓦多立法议会于1916年3月24日通过，样式则见于1972年批准的《国家象征法》。这面旗源自中美洲联邦共和国国旗，而后者又受阿根廷国旗启发。1865年至1912年间，萨尔瓦多国旗形似美国国旗，左上为红色旗角，旗面由九道蓝白相间横条组成，旗角内白星数与全国省份数相同。

设计

萨尔瓦多国旗的正式样式见于该国立法议会1972年9月14日通过的《国家象征法》。国旗分为三种，分别是大旗（Bandera Magna）、公署用旗（bandera de uso en edificios y oficinas públicas）、游行旗（bandera de desfiles）。[1]

国旗底式为蓝白蓝三横条，上下蓝条象征环绕着整个中美洲的太平洋与大西洋。[2][3]中间白条象征和平。大国旗的白条中央饰国徽。其法定尺寸为长3.35米（11.0英尺）、宽1.89米（6.2英尺），长宽比189比335[4]，每道横条宽0.63米（2.1英尺）。[2]公署用旗以国训“上帝、团结、自由”（Dios, Union, Libertad）金色大写字母代替国徽[2]，尺寸为长1米（3.3英尺）、宽60厘米（24英寸），长宽比3比5。游行旗与此相同，仅尺寸改为长1.45米（4.8英尺）、宽0.9米（3.0英尺），长宽比18比29。[1]

萨尔瓦多各式国旗用途有别。大国旗用于立法、行政、司法三权机关举行会议、集会或其他活动时，也用于国庆等节日庆典。悬挂萨尔瓦多国旗的本国船只亦用此旗。公署用旗用于各公共建筑和机关，须置于显要位置，外交使团也用此旗。游行旗须配旗杆，杆高2.5米（8.2英尺），直径4厘米（1.6英寸），顶端装菱形金色枪尖，枪尖与旗杆相接处系两条一蓝一白长2米（6.6英尺）的飘带。萨尔瓦多国旗升降时，须奏唱国歌。[1][4]

1822年2月20日，萨尔瓦多将领曼努埃尔·何塞·阿尔塞在圣萨尔瓦多展示蓝白蓝三横条旗，式样取法阿根廷国旗。当时墨西哥第一帝國正图并吞中美洲，此旗由其妻玛丽亚·费莉帕·阿兰萨门迪与其妹曼努埃拉·安东尼娅·阿尔塞制成。萨尔瓦多沿用此旗至1865年。[6][7]

1865年2月14日，萨尔瓦多立法议会颁令改定民用与国用旗，旗面为九道蓝白相间横条，左上红色旗角缀九星，各代表当时一省。[a]军旗式样与此相同，惟正面以国徽代九星。总统弗朗西斯科·杜埃尼亚斯于1865年4月28日批准此令。[9]随着萨尔瓦多省份增设，旗角星数也随之增加。1865年稍后，国旗因拉乌尼翁、乌苏卢坦两省设立而增添两星。1869年、1873年、1875年国旗又因阿瓦查潘、卡瓦尼亚斯、莫拉桑三省先后设立而各增一星。[10]1875年至1912年间，萨尔瓦多国旗共有十四星。[2]1865年的这面旗形似美国国旗，又因出自杜埃尼亚斯保守派政府之手，故称“保守旗”（bandera conservadora）。[7][11]

1912年5月17日，立法议会通过蓝白蓝三横条为萨尔瓦多国旗。9月15日，此旗首次在圣萨尔瓦多战神广场升起。[2]修改旗帜的原因在于1865年的旗式酷似美国国旗，而当时不少萨尔瓦多领袖对美国干涉拉丁美洲抱持反帝立场。[7][11][12]1912年旗式取法中美洲联邦共和国国旗，而后者又源自萨尔瓦多1822年所用旗帜。[2]新旗首次升起翌日，《萨尔瓦多日报》即指出此旗与尼加拉瓜国旗极为相似。两者皆为蓝白蓝三横条，中央又都绘有五火山的国徽。[11]1921年9月15日萨尔瓦多加入中美洲联邦后，该国旗一度停用，直至1922年1月29日联邦解体。[13][14]
