On June 2013, Klein was re-elected to Wikimedia's Board of Trustees, a position which he has held since August 2009 and continues to serve in.[4]

Early life[编辑]

Klein grew up in Houston, Texas, where he attended Bellaire High School. Klein is Jewish, and has said that he knows Hebrew as well as four additional languages at various levels.[5]

He later studied physics at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.[6] Throughout his life, he lived in Kenya and Germany.[5]

Career[编辑]

In the 2000s, he worked as a programmer and teacher, developing translation software at Idiom Technologies, a startup later acquired by SDL PLC. He also pursued education projects, and helped to plan ArsDigita University, a one-year school teaching computer science that was one of the first to publish its materials online under a free license.

In 2006, he joined One Laptop per Child as its Director of Content, curating the content that was sent around the world on the laptops, most of it developed by participating communities.[7]

Within Wikimedia, he developed translation networks and worked on the first Wikimania conferences, hosting the second conference in Boston.[8] He produced an early community newsletter, and edited the book How Wikipedia Works.[9]

He is also a puzzle hunter, and founded team Codex, which ran the 32nd MIT Mystery Hunt in 2012. He is currently co-chair of the technical stream of the Digital Public Library of America,[10]and lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

As a fellow of Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University he researches "patterns of knowledge, leagues of extraordinary curators and annotators, and the rise of decentralized creation and education".[11]
