約翰·弗雷德里克·哈爾頓（英語：John Frederick Haldon；1948年10月23日-）是英國的一位歷史學者，專攻拜占庭帝國歷史，現為普林斯頓大學30屆謝爾比·庫洛姆·戴維斯歐洲歷史（榮休）教授（Shelby Cullom Davis '30 Professor of European History）與拜占庭歷史與希臘研究榮休教授，2021年當選英國國家學術院院士，2016-2022年任國際拜占庭學研究會會長。
早年生活與教育[編輯]
約翰·哈爾頓1948年10月23日生於英格蘭泰恩河畔紐卡斯爾，1970年在伯明翰大學獲得文學學士學位，論文題目為「莫里斯至巴西爾二世時代拜占庭軍隊的武器、盔甲與戰術組織（Arms, armour and tactical organisation of the Byzantine army from Maurice to Basil II）」[1]。隨後他前往路德維希·馬克西米連慕尼黑大學攻讀碩士學位，之後回到伯明翰大學，1975年獲博士學位，論文題目是拜占庭軍事管理的各方面：6至9世紀的精英軍團：Opsikion和帝國Tagmata（Aspects of Byzantine military administration: the Elite Corps, the Opsikion, and the Imperial Tagmata from the sixth to the ninth century）[2]，論文指導者是安東尼·貝理雅[3]。他還曾在雅典大學學習現代希臘語。[4]
職業生涯[編輯]
博士畢業後，哈爾頓於1976-1979年到路德維希·馬克西米連慕尼黑大學從事拜占庭學博士後研究[5]。1980年-1995年，他在伯明翰大學任初級教授，1995-2000年任拜占庭、奧斯曼與現代希臘研究中心主任，2000-2005年，任歷史研究部門的負責人。
2005年，哈爾頓到普林斯頓大學工作，自2009年起任拜占庭歷史與希臘研究教授、30屆謝爾比·庫洛姆·戴維斯歐洲歷史教授（Shelby Cullom Davis '30 Professor of European History），2018年榮休。同時他還於2007-2013年任敦巴頓橡樹園拜占庭研究中心高級研究員。在普林斯頓大學，哈爾頓還擔任歷史系研究生教育負責人（2009-2018年） ，並擔任莫瓦薩瓦爾-拉赫瑪尼伊朗與波斯灣研究中心（Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies）主任首任主任（2013-2018年）[6]。他還擔任安卡拉英國研究所主持的[7]阿夫卡特考古項目的負責人（2006-2012年[8]）。2013年後， 他一直擔任普林斯頓氣候變化與歷史研究計劃主任，並自2018年起擔任中世紀環境史實驗室主任。
